Daily Freeman: Onteora school trustees seek intervener status in review of proposed electric plant

BOICEVILLE, N.Y. – The Onteora Board of Education is seeking intervener status in the federal review of a proposed 2,800-megawatt Premium Energy Holdings electric generating plant at the Ashokan Reservoir.

During a school board video conference  meeting Tuesday, March 4, Trustee Bennett Ratcliff said the proposed generating plant and all three potential locations for a planned supporting reservoir to power the facility would all be within the school district boundaries.

“There are three proposed (reservoir) sites,” Ratcliff said. “One of them is directly above Phoenicia Elementary School. So if the dam were to ever burst, it would inundate Phoenicia and the elementary school would be part of that.”
